Michael's Legacy
I never had the privilege of meeting Michael, I came to know of him through his mother at a small group meeting. I grew to know him through some of the stories I've heard or read, and through posting some of the articles on this site. I also grew to know him through his own words in his poetry, and that is what inspired me to start this site - so that others who had not had the chance could me him they way I have. I also wanted this to be a place where those who knew and loved him could come and remember.
The young man I knew had courage beyond his tender years. Though short, it is apparent God had great plans for his time with us. He has used Michael's story to touch countless, nameless, often hidden lives. Through those that did know him, and those that did life with him, a model has been formed that clearly defines courage, and true humility for all of us. Someone once described humility as not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less, and with all Michael had to deal with he personified that definition.
I know there are other families in similar situations who could benefit greatly from Michael's story, as well as the stories of his family. There have been comments on this site from parents of children currently suffering from neuroblastoma who have already been given some measure of inspiration from Michael. What I would like to do, with your help, is to continue and grow Michael's legacy even more.
If you are one of the fortunate ones who had the opportunity to spend time with him, and you have a story you would like to share, please send me an email. I will have your story approved by the Lewandowski family and then post it in this space. I will include your name as the submitter of the story, unless you would prefer not, but either way send your stories to share with those who could benefit from them.
Thank You,
Gene
